What is the SPABA SIG?
The mission of the Speech Pathology Special Interest Group (SPABA)
is to promote 1) dissemination of behaviorally oriented
speech and language research and 2) application of evidence-based
practices relevant to the full range of services provided by
speech and language professionals.
This collaboration between speech pathologists and behavior
analysts has strong benefits for consumers of our services to
treat speech, language, and swallowing disorders. In addition,
it enhances communication between our related professions through
conference presentations, collaborative research, workshops,
publication of treatment protocols and materials, and many other
venues.
Members
Our members are speech pathologists, behavior analysts, and
students in these two fields who advocate a behavioral approach
to address speech, language, and swallowing disorders both clinically
and through empirical research. Most of our members are certified
in either speech pathology (www.asha.org)
or behavior analysis (www.bacb.com),
although more are obtaining certification in both professional
areas.
For membership information, email Jamie Severtson, SPABA SIG membership
chair (SPABASIG@yahoo.com).
How can I get involved?
The SPABA SIG meets annually at the Association for Behavior
Analysis conference (www.abainternational.org/events.asp).
Interested professionals and students are encouraged to attend
and share their perspectives.
SPABA also remains active via this website and through the SLP-ABA
discussion group (http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/SLP_ABA/).
